Focus on becoming the best version of yourself, not for others, but for your own happiness and growth. Do what makes you feel fulfilled and proud. Whether it’s getting sober, starting a workout routine, jogging, or learning a new skill—whatever you need to feel accomplished, do it for yourself!
I spent a large part of my life feeling ashamed of my mistakes, believing I was flawed. But I’m not broken, and neither are you. Mistakes are a part of life. Focus on what you can learn from them.

Practice gratitude every day! There is so much to be grateful for. Even if you can only find joy in the small things, you’ll realize that those small things are actually the big things.

Your flaws are beautiful
Perfection does not exist. Fall in love with yourself. Fall in love with your experiences. Fall in love with your scars, your flaws, your imperfections and embrace all the things that make you unique. Take all the sadness, anger, and trauma of your past and find a way to make you stronger.
Take care of you
Don’t forget to take care of yourself. You are your most valuable investment. Your mental health should always be your main priority. It is the most important thing in your life and this is not selfish at all. Take care of yourself like your life depends on it, because it does.

Have you felt the glimmers?
Glimmers are the opposite of triggers. They are those warm fuzzy feelings that make you feel happy to be alive. Sometimes it’s sitting out in the sunshine and feeling the warmth on my face. Taking that first sip of coffee in the morning. Other times it’s gardening in my backyard, going for a walk, hearing my kids laugh or making cookies or pancakes with them or giving my children a long tight hug. I try to make a point of looking for glimmers every day.
You want to know the hard truth?
No one is coming to save you. It is up to you to save yourself. No one can do it for you. You must create your own happiness. People can help you, guide you, advise you but if you want to change your situation then it’s up to you. And guess what? You can do it. You can create the life you want for yourself. Be the hero in your own story!
